Was this one of the smarter things he'd ever done? the Doctor asked himself, watching as Josef leaned over him, the look on the other man's face almost predatory. He had made love with several other species, but never with a vampire who needed blood to live.

How had they gotten to this point so quickly? It didn't seem possible that they could already be here in bed together, their bodies bared, ready to consummate a desire that had leapt into being fomr the first time they'd set eyes on each other.

He hadn't quite been able to believe his good fortune when Josef had told him that he was desired; he hadn't been sure just how this man had felt about him, whether he looked at the Doctor as merely a strange person he would know casually as a friend, or as something more.

And he hadn't expected his own desire for Josef to be so strong, even after he'd discovered what the other man was. He'd wanted Josef from the first time he'd laid eyes on this man, and that desire had only grown by leaps and bounds in the time he'd been aboard the Tardis.

When Josef had begun removing his clothes, the Doctor hadn't been able to look away from the sight presented to him -- or speak a single word. The sight of Josef revealing more and more of his body was a revelation that the Time Lord couldn't put into words.

He had known that Josef would have a beautiful body; dreams of what he would look like naked had haunted the Doctor's dreams since the night they'd first met. But the other man's beauty had taken his breath away to the point where his lungs had felt constricted, unable to expand.

And now Josef was leaning over him, smiling down at him as those nimble fingers worked at the buttons on the Doctor's shirt, sliding it off over his shoulders. The Time Lord sat up slightly, letting Josef slide his shirt on, then sinking back onto the pillows again as those hands moved down his body.

It was almost impossible to believe that they were finally going to make love, after all the time he'd spent dreaming of this man, all the fantasies that he'd had in the time that they'd been together. It hadn't been that long, but to the Doctor, it felt like a lifetime.

Those warm, soft hands were tugging at the zipper of his trousers, then sliding the fabric down his legs; the Doctor raised his hips, allowing Josef to pull them down his legs and off. His breath caught in his throat as he realized that the two of them were now skin to skin.

This was what he'd wanted since the first time he'd seen Josef, since the first time the other man had smiled at him and spoken in that soft, alluring voice. But there was still a side of him that pulled away, that was cautious about giving himself completely.

Josef was moving back up his body now, making him tense with anticipation. What would happen when the other man's lips touched his throat? Would Josef's vampire instincts take over, and make him sink his fangs deep into the Doctor's flesh in a lingering vampire kiss?

A shudder went through him at the thought; yes, he wanted Josef, but he couldn't help feeling apprehensive about what could possibly happen. He trusted Josef, but only to a point; he knew all too well how hard it was to hold back an ingrained instinct that was a part of someone.

Josef's lips were on his chest, his warm tongue swirling around first one nipple, then the other; the Doctor gasped out the other man's name, his body arching up into that warm caress, his fingers threading through the soft strands of Josef's hair, holding his lover's head to his chest.

But he couldn't hold Josef there forever; in just a few moments, the other man's mouth was moving up again, brushing against the hollow at the base of the Doctor's throat, then trailing fire up his neck, kissing his Adam's apple, moving back towards his ear.

The Doctor couldn't stop his body from going tense and taut; he didn't want to, but the reaction was too instinctive for him to stop it. The only thought in his mind was that a vampire was kissing his neck, and that he didn't know what might happen next.

Josef drew away, sitting up and looking down at the Doctor, his dark eyes full of reproach. He crossed his arms over his chest, regarding the Doctor with a steady gaze but not speaking. The Time Lord was lost for words; guilt swept over him in a crashing, suffocating wave.

"You think I'm going to bite you, don't you?" Josef asked, his voice soft, his tone only slightly accusing. "Even though I've told you time and time again that I don't bite people unless they're threatening me in some way, you still don't believe me."

The Doctor shook his head, wanting to deny the words, but knowing that he couldn't. It was impossible for him to forget what Josef was -- and what he might be capable of. He wanted with all of his heart to trust Josef completely, but it wasn't possible at this point.

"I-I'm sorry," he managed to say, feeling his throat constrict on the words. "I don't want you to think that I don't want you, Josef. I do. I just .... I can't forget what you are. I can't forget that you're a vampire -- and when you're near my throat, that's the only thought in my mind."

Josef nodded, sighing and gazing at the Doctor with regret in his eyes. "If you don't want this to go any further, then tell me now," he said, his voice level and even. "I'm not going to deny that I want you, but I'm not going to make love to somebody who has any doubts about what they want."

"I can't help worrying that you might lose your inhibitions and --" The Doctor swallowed again, not wanting to put his thoughts into words, but knowing that he had to. "That you might sink your fangs into me. That you might take my blood without really meaning to."

"Doctor, I've lived for over four hundred years. I've learned to control my urges. I've made love to a lot of people -- and unless they wanted it, I've never taken blood from them when we made love," Josef told him, his lips tightening. "That's insulting."

The Doctor swallowed hard, wanting to sit up and touch Josef, but knowing that it would more than likely only push the other man further away if he did. So he did the only other thing he could think of -- he turned his head to the side, closing his eyes and baring his throat to Josef.

He didn't know what Josef would do; he could only hope that the other man would continue his caresses, that he hadn't put a damper on their lovemaking that would push Josef away from him forever. He wanted Josef's touch, wanted it more than he could put into words.

After what seemed like an eternity, he felt soft lips on his throat, gentle kisses that worked their way up to just below the delicate shell of his ear, then moved to his cheek. Josef turned his face upwards, continuing to kiss him, those lips on his for one fleeting, quicksilver moment.

Then those lips were on the other side of his throat, trailing down to the hollow at the base, then back up to his chin, his cheek -- and finally, those soft, sweet lips were devouring his own in a kiss that was so deep, so overpowering, that he thought he would faint from the sheer pleasure of it.

"I'm not going to bite you," Josef whispered into his ear, those soft, warm hands moving down his body. The other man's fingers were doing incredible things to his nipples, then trailing down his sides to rest on his hips before moving to the juncture of his thighs.

"I know," the Time Lord whispered back, finally opening his eyes and looking at the man leaning over him. Josef looked absolutely beautiful -- and utterly desirable. The Doctor reached up to wrap his arms around the other man's neck, pulling him down for another heady, breathless kiss.

"I want to make love to you," Josef murmured, breaking away from the kiss and raising his head to stare down into the Doctor's eyes. "But only if you want it, Doctor. This is your last chance to back out. If you want me to stop, say it now."

The Doctor shook his head, pulling Josef down to him again, arching his body up against the other man's. All he wanted was to be in Josef's arms -- and whatever risk he might be taking, he was absolutely sure that the pleasure the two of them would give each other was well worth that risk.
